IP PBX VoIP- The 21st Century Method Of Talking
IP PBX/ VoIP is the new way to talk in today's world. In such a setup, a conventional multimedia computer attached to the internet can be converted into a telephone machine. While earlier the same machine was used to send packets of data using set internet protocols (IP), now it can be used to carry voice over the same network.
The importance of Internet Protocol can not be denied for this system. While earlier, IP helped in the regular and timely transmission of data packets between two computers, now it is being used to send voice over the same network. IP acts like a traffic marshal. If it wasn't there would be a traffic jam on the internet and it would take ages to send and receive data between computers.
To set up an IP PBX/VoIP network the basic requirement is that of a broadband internet connection. Further, one also needs to have access to a VoIP service provider or a Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) server. The last thing that is required is a headset with a microphone and an on-board sound card. Using these things, an IP PBX/VoIP network can be setup easily.
If one wants to do away with the crude headset-configuration used for talking, one can opt for other types of VoIP telephones. These telephones are simple software-based telephones that are also known as a SIP phones. Just like conventional telephones, they too can be used to make calls. Further, facilities like caller ID, call hold, call transfer and call park that are otherwise available only on conventional telephones are also available in VoIP phones.
To call up somebody requires the user to first register with the IP PBX server. The server, which is quite similar to a proxy server, has a directory of all registered phones/ users and their corresponding SIP addresses. When trying to call a user, it locates the destination user's SIP address and then connects an internal call. External calls can also be routed through the network with the help of a VoIP service provider or a VoIP gateway.
The biggest benefit of IP PBX VoIP network is that it has made telephone calls between end users a whole lot cheaper. At an international level, the cost of communicating between two individuals has significantly come down. Further, while earlier only a limited amount of traffic could travel through the network, fiber optic cables have allowed a tremendous increase in the movement of traffic on the internet.
IP PBX/VoIP network is here to stay. Its popularity is increasing day by day as it cuts down the cost of human communication. Further, because of an increase in bandwidth available to common users, the time it takes to send and receive data is also rapidly coming down. All these factors have ensured that VoIP would be the 21st century way of communicating.
